In March the Horn Sledging Races will take place by the Ziebel village lift in Saas-Grund.
This special race that takes place every year in early March has only one category - the fun category! Anybody who is game for a laugh and possesses plenty of team spirit is welcome to participate.
Usually, three people are needed to make up a team - a helmsman, a braker and a runner - although it's possible with just two, as well. Sledges are provided by IG Ziebel but you are welcome to bring your own.
Start is at 10.15 a.m.
The winner is decided on the basis of two runs. The main goal is to complete the two runs in roughly the same amount of time as the team with the smallest time difference wins.
There are attractive prizes on offer for the winners, and after the prize-giving ceremony competitors can enjoy a bowl of traditional Saas Valley meat soup at the bar.
The meandering course is marked out with flags. If snow conditions are right, the course also includes a steep turn and a jump. Special equipment attached to the ski lift allows the sledges to be easily transported to the starting line.
All participants are rewarded with a small gift.
