Since 1983, the Saas Museum has been a living testimony to the eventful history of the Saas Valley. To mark its 40th anniversary, the museum underwent a comprehensive redesign.
Take a trip back in time and immerse yourself in the modernised rooms, which are now open every day thanks to an innovative access and security system. Numerous interactive experiences and newly designed rooms bring you closer to the rich history of the Saas Valley.

Highlights include special exhibitions that change every year, the presentation of individual works by local artist Werner Zurbriggen and a special area dedicated to the importance of cable cars in the history of tourism. Another highlight is the trilingual media guide, which uses radio plays, pictures and videos to help visitors understand the region's special features.

Special exhibition marking the 75th anniversary of the Saas-Grund – Saas-Fee road | Opening 6 June 2026

The year 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of the opening of the road between Saas-Grund and Saas-Fee. To mark this occasion, the Saas Museum is dedicating a special exhibition to this significant milestone.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through time, exploring the history of the development of Saas-Fee. It shows how people, post and goods once reached the village via mule tracks, the challenges that had to be overcome during the construction of the road between 1948 and 1951, and how the ceremonial opening on 8 July 1951 heralded a new era for the Saas Valley.

With numerous insights into the history and development of the Saas Valley, the exhibition demonstrates how the road has permanently transformed people’s lives, tourism and mobility. At the same time, it examines the evolution of mobility right up to the present day – from the first post buses and the car-free village concept to modern electric vehicles and innovative mobility solutions.

The special exhibition invites locals and visitors alike to rediscover the history of the road and to experience the significance of this link for the development of the Saas Valley.

Useful information

The building that now houses the Saas Museum is a former vicarage which was built in 1732. In 1855 an extra floor was added. In 1983 this typical old Saas house was opened as a museum on the initiative of the local historian Werner Imseng.
