On the slopes

Suit up and get on the top for the craziest picture between the highest mountains in Switzerland.

Giant Slalom

"SWUG Giant Slalom"

One of the most popular ski disciplines and the supreme discipline of the SWUG. If you want to win the SWUG you have to be among the best in this discipline.

Mix Race

"SWUG Mix Race"

Various disciplines in one single course. The most complete athlete will win this discipline with steep curves, small jumps and tide/wide turns.

"SWUG Speed"

Finally a discipline where there is no speed limit. The so called “Mausefalle of Saas-Fee” is your opportunity to go all out.

"SWUG Slalom"

Tide turns but still possible for everyone. Your chance to feel like a real Slalom star. So get ready and smash the pols.

Parallel Slalom (NEW)

Only one run to level up. There is nothing more spectacular than a head to head race with a competitor on a course next to you.

SWUG Relay

4 team members’ three challenges: Ski/Snowboard cross, Scooter, running while two are fixed together. Action and spectacle is guaranteed because 4 teams race at the same time.

Program / Schedule

The Swiss Winter University Games (SWUG) is a fully digitized winter event consisting of seven winter challenges.

You will be greeted in Saas-Fee on the evening of Friday 22nd March 2019 with a briefing session. On Saturday, four competitions are held in parallel in the disciplines Giant Slalom, Speed, Mix Race, Parallel slalom and Photo Contest.

Every discipline (excluding the Snow Relay Race) is either filmed or photographed with moveable cameras that are linked up to the internet. All images and footage can be accessed online almost immediately, either at one of the Racers’ Corners or via your smartphone. You can also check the results from individual disciplines as they come in.

It's Party time on Saturday evening! After the dinner, the SWUG party will take place at the legendary Popcorn and will carry on into the early morning hours.

On Sunday the Slalom and Snow Relay will put all teams’ skills to the test once again, before the Swiss Winter University Champion 2019 is ultimately crowned.

Prizes will be given to the best teams, best individuals (women & men), most original pictures at the photo contest.

All team members must be matriculated at the same university and consist of two female and two male participants. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Registration opens on 10 November at 8 a.m. First-come-first-served basis.

Participants also receive various goodies.

Must all members of the team be enrolled at the same university?

In principle, yes. The jury shall decide if any justifiable exceptions are permitted.

What equipment can be used for the Giant Slalom, Speed and Mix Race disciplines?

Skis, snowboards, telemark skis, ski boards and race boards. The jury shall decide if any equipment not listed here is permitted.

Can I compete in a race suit?

No. (SHM: yes)

In what order must the disciplines be completed and are there fixed start times?

Start times are allocated to each team at the briefing session on Friday evening. After the first round, there are no more fixed start times.

Where can I find videos and photos of the day?

You can view your action videos and fun photos at Simply register and enter your ski pass number.

What happens if I miss a gate?

All runs are monitored via video, and the captured footage is used as authoritative evidence. If it is clear from the video footage that a gate was missed, the run will not count. You can, however, repeat the discipline.

What happens if my run is not fully recorded due to technical problems?

If the entirety of a run is not visible on video, it will be automatically disqualified.

Do I receive a bib number? if so, must I wear it at all times?

All participants receive a bib number. This number must be worn for the duration of the competition, otherwise you will not be eligible to participate.

Participation in SWUG requires intermediate to advanced skiing or snowboarding skills. Participants should be able to safely master a red slope. In addition, participants require stamina, strength and creativity.

Is a inspection of the course possible before the race commences?

No inspection is given of the Giant Slalom, Mix Race and Speed courses. The Snow Relay Race will be explained in advance. The jury will announce the order of the relay race and course tour times on Saturday evening.

What happens if I, as team leader, need to unsubscribe my team after having paid or a teammate must be replaced?

In principle, it is your responsibility to organize a replacement team. If this is not possible, the following refund conditions apply: 100% for cancellations up to 15 January 2019; 50% for cancellations up to 15 February 2019. No refunds are possible after this date. Also, if a teammate is not able to join the SWUG please look for another participant. It is important to inform the OK about the changes in your team. If you don't find someone you can contact us.

What percentage of the amount paid is reimbursed to me if the event is cancelled?

In principle, all unused funds are reimbursed if the organizing committee cancels the event. Even in the event of early cancellation, however, some costs may have already been incurred (i.e. accommodation cancellation costs). All refunds and details regarding the amount will go directly to the participants.

Will the SWUG take place under all circumstances?

In principle, yes. But if, for unforeseen reasons, the event has to be cancelled or the program needs to be changed, all team leaders will be notified immediately via e-mail or Whats App
