Marmots

Our marmots are probably the sweetest villagers in Saas-Fee. Explore the area of Spielboden or the Stafelwald, and you will likely come across marmots. 

In winter, these cute rodents sleep peacefully in their burrows. They hibernate from mid-October, around the 15th, for between six and eight months. From May onwards, the marmots are active again and look forward to your visit!

Eddie's adventures on the Spielboden

Eddie, the marmot, lives with his family on the Spielboden in Saas-Fee. One morning he is woken up by the chirping of the birds. Everything seems as usual: Eddie looks for delicious blossoms for breakfast and waits for the human children to play hide and seek, but he’s immediately tired again and lies down in the grass. Then suddenly, a little mouse who wants to experience something on the Spielboden appears. Although Eddie would rather go back to sleep, he goes on an adventure with the little mouse.

During the ride on the Spielboden gondola, Eddie the marmot accompanies you with entertaining stories and fascinating insights into the world of marmots.

At Spielboden, you can go on the Spielboden circular trail with Eddie, the funny marmot. On seven panels, you can learn exciting facts about the life of the marmots and, in the best case, even meet them in person.

Discover Eddie's favourite place and marvel at the mighty Fee glacier, among other things. Eddie tells you more about the impressive nature on an information board and via audio.

At the Saas-Fee Tourist Office and the Spielboden Restaurant, you can purchase practical feed bags containing suitable marmot food. This allows you to observe the animals up close while treating them with care and respect. The bag also makes a lovely souvenir and can be reused after your visit.
