Carl Zuckmayer visited the glacier village of Saas-Fee for the first time in 1938. After the Second World War, Zuckmayer came to Saas-Fee 14 times, climbed the mountains and hiked all the trails until he settled here in Saas-Fee in 1958.
The comedy "Der fröhliche Weinberg" (The Merry Vineyard) by Carl Zuckmayer is set in Rheinhessen in the autumn of 1921. It is about a widowed vineyard owner, Jean Baptiste Gunderloch, and his daughter Klärchen, who is engaged to a man named Knuzius but does not actually want to marry him.
