SaasFeestival: Music meets the mountains

Alpine festivals: Living traditions in the Saas Valley

Cows, goats and working Alpine pastures have shaped the landscape of the Saas Valley for centuries. At the region’s Alpine festivals, yodelling masses and folklore events, locals and visitors come together to celebrate this rich mountain culture.

Highlights include the yodelling mass at Kreuzboden Lake on 26 July, the large goat festival near Restaurant Alpenblick on 9 August and the Alpine festival on Triftalp on 15 August. Open-air masses, yodelling, live music and regional specialities create an authentic Valais festival atmosphere.

The Alpine festival on Triftalp, above Saas-Grund, is a particularly memorable experience. Following the mass and musical entertainment, the Alpine queen and the cow with the highest milk yield are crowned. Traditional Saaser Gsottus and grilled specialities are, of course, also on the menu.

Swiss National Day: Celebrating 1 August together

On Swiss National Day, the Saas Valley shows its traditional side. Flags, the sound of alphorns and festively decorated village squares set the scene as locals and visitors come together to celebrate.

All four municipalities — Saas-Balen, Saas-Grund, Saas-Almagell and Saas-Fee — offer a varied programme featuring music, traditional costumes, folklore performances and regional food. There are activities and entertainment for visitors of all ages.

In the evening, lantern parades, the Swiss national anthem and other highlights bring the celebrations to an atmospheric close. Swiss National Day in the Saas Valley is defined by its special combination of living traditions and genuine village hospitality — from singing the national anthem together and listening to alphorns to enjoying convivial hours on the village square.

65th Valais Yodelling Gathering: Tradition, music and good company

On 21 and 22 August 2026, Saas-Balen will become a meeting place for everyone who appreciates Valais customs and traditions. The Jodlerklub Grubenalp will combine the 65th Valais Yodelling Gathering with its own 60th anniversary, inviting guests to enjoy two days of music and celebration.

Visitors can look forward to yodelling, alphorn music, traditional flag throwing and a festive parade. A yodelling mass near the round church, performances by a variety of groups and further musical entertainment will complete the programme.

Nostalgic Culinary Mile: Dining as in days gone by

On 6 September 2026, Saas-Fee will turn back the clock. During the Nostalgic Culinary Mile, the village street will be transformed into one long festive dining table.

Local hoteliers and restaurateurs will serve authentic dishes from earlier times, many of which are now rarely found on restaurant menus. A selection of Valais wines will accompany the food. Historical costumes, lovingly decorated stalls and musical entertainment will transport the entire village centre back to another era.

The dishes will be available both as tasting portions and as full servings. This gives you the opportunity to stop at several different stations and sample a wide range of Saas specialities — from Valais platters and traditional Saas meat soup to cholera, game dishes and sweet treats.

There will also be plenty to see. In the afternoon, historical costumes will be presented and judged on the village square. Anyone arriving in period dress will instantly become part of the nostalgic setting. In the evening, the Feer-Nola Guggenmusik carnival band will provide lively entertainment and bring the day to a convivial close on the village square.
