Walking through the village, passing the Dom Hotel where<br \/>\nopen rehearsals took place for anyone to drop by and listen in, to taking a diversion to the classic<br \/>\nEvangelical Church simply to experience again that peaceful spot bringing back the vivid sounds of<br \/>\nbassoons, violins and more!<\/p>\n<p>The second season of Talis was equally impressive as the first, with collaboration between<br \/>\nprofessional musicians and Talis Academy participants, most of whom are selected from around the<br \/>\nworld through innovative online auditions. New talent is introduced every year, this time<br \/>\nparticipants came from as far away as Japan and Australia to Europe and the US. As described by<br \/>\nScott Pool, Academy Director, they try to keep a good balance of cultures and people. While the<br \/>\nfirst criteria is talent, equally important is \u201cpersonality\u201d and how the individuals interact with a<br \/>\ngroup. In Scott&#8217;s words \u201cThen, true music gets to happen!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The eclectic programme this year included contemporary creations, traditional classics, as well as<br \/>\nLatin sounds and children&#8217;s afternoon sessions. A treat for all.<\/p>\n<p>Unforgettable were the harp performances \u2013 Bernard Andres&#8217; Parvis for two harps, Carlos Salzedo&#8217;s Tango from Suite of Eight Dances for two harps, and Manuel de Falla&#8217;s La Vida Breve Spanish Dance no. 1 for two harps. Played with technical excellence, enjoyment and obvious love of the instrument by the harpists Carina Walter from Basel and Heather Woitena from the US.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/two-harps.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-417\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/two-harps-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"two harps\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/two-harps-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/two-harps-443x590.jpg 443w, https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/two-harps-275x367.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/two-harps.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe festival provided an opportunity to hear unique creations and new music. Marcus Maroney<br \/>\nwho teaches music composition at the University of Texas and has created orchestra, opera and<br \/>\nchamber music pieces, was the Guest Composer for this year. Bethany Brown, Talis Academy<br \/>\nComposer, created the piece which was played live with the silent movie \u201cThe Cabinet of Dr.<br \/>\nCaligari\u201d shown in collaboration with the Saas-Fee Film Festival. Other unforgettable moments<br \/>\nwere listening to Dmitri Ashkenazy play the clarinet solo Kov\u00e0c&#8217;s Homenaje de Falla.<\/p>\n<p>Saas-Fee, as described by the musicians, is an intimate and accessible village, inspiring, relaxed and<br \/>\nwelcoming. Young Peter Delgrosso, 22 years old, a Master&#8217;s degree student of classical horn at the<br \/>\nAaron Copeland School of Music in New York City, and a returning Talis participant, enthused \u201cI&#8217;m<br \/>\nvery lucky\u201d to be learning from and performing with top musicians. He felt that the special<br \/>\nenvironment of Saas-Fee, \u201cmakes the music and sets the relationship\u201d. The composer Bethany<br \/>\nBrown, while introducing her piece, said she had \u201cNever felt more inspired!\u201d<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Talis-youngest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Talis-youngest-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Talis youngest\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Talis-youngest-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Talis-youngest-443x590.jpg 443w, https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Talis-youngest-275x367.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.saas-fee.ch\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Talis-youngest.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAll in all, apart from the compliments paid to Saas-Fee, including by Maria Wildhaber, Founder and<br \/>\nArtistic Director, as a one of a kind location surrounded by nature, it is Maria&#8217;s vision which makes<br \/>\nit happen. Her engagement with the musicians, group choices and decisions, a focus on the team<br \/>\nrather than the individual\u2026 To add to this, the energy, enthusiasm and warmth of a mother of two<br \/>\nactive young children!
