A requiem for a glacier by the Tétraflûtes ensemble 22 July 2016

Glacier Requiem forms part of the VIBRATIONS VALAISANNES trilogy. The Tétraflûtes ensemble takes traditional themes from Valais folk culture and combines them with new music or new musical concepts, creating an unusual acoustic exploration of our cultural heritage.

The requiem, which is the first part of the trilogy, will premiere in Saas-Fee against a backdrop of snow and ice at 3,500 metres a.s.l.

Gletscher-Requiem is a synthesis of music, film and sound, with the glacier itself forming part of the performance; the melting ice is given a voice and begins to groan. The requiem is a gurgling, hissing, crashing and rumbling elegy for the melting glacier.
